Day 5 - Preview
16 Jun 2007 07:14

England face China, Korea aim to regain their form against New Zealand, and Azerbaijan look to win their first points of the tournament against USA on Day 5 of the AtaHolding Champions Challenge in Baku.

China V England

China, top of the league table after their defeat of Korea, should only need a point to secure a place in the final of the AtaHolding Champions Challenge. However, an England win would see them move ahead of their opponents in the league table. England would then require USA to slip up against Azerbaijan this afternoon to reach the final. However, China are clear favourites to win the match, having scored more and conceded less than any other side at the tournament.

New Zealand V Korea

New Zealand lost in demoralising circumstances against USA on Day 4, conceding an overtime penalty corner. The Black Sticks are struggling for goals, having scored just twice in the four games played so far. Korea have had no such trouble in finding the goal, with 10 strikes registered in their four matches. With New Zealand defender Lizzy IGASAN still unavailable through injury, the Korean team are anticipated to get a win which would guarantee their place in Sunday’s final.

Azerbaijan V USA

USA have already got a victory against league leaders China to their name this tournament, and a win this afternoon could see them reach the tomorrows’ final, if result go their way. Azerbaijan are guaranteed a fifth place play-off tomorrow, but hope that they can pick up their first win in what promises to be a lively encounter.
